Developing a Sense of Place in Devon

The project aims to document and celebrate the human and natural environment of the Devon community in which the children live through photography. The project has been inspired by the work of James Ravilious, who over the past 40 years has been depicting life in North Devon through over 80,000 photographs.

The project is being funded by the Beaford Arts and the Geography Department of Devon County Council.

During January and February the children went out around the village and took photographs of what they considered to be "iconic" in Plymtree. Each child then   submitted one photograph and during  early March these photographs were posted on the school website where the children, parents, teachers and the community voted for the photograph which they considered to be the most iconic of the village.

The two photographs with the highest votes will be professionally mounted and displayed at a exhibition at the Greenwarren House, Beaford Arts, North Devon. The exhibition will run between Saturday 11th to Sunday 12th June 2011. The winning photographers, together with their families will be officially invited to the exhibtion to see their work displayed.

The congratulations to Brody and Zevi Christie on their winning photographs.
